Minnesota AG Sued Landlord over Dangerous and Uninhabitable Homes
FEBRUARY 10, 2022
In February 2022, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison filed a lawsuit against HavenBrook Homes for failing to maintain its properties, leaving residences uninhabitable. Dangerous conditions included lead exposure, mold issues, and broken heating, among other health and safety violations. The lawsuit sought restitution, civil penalties, and enjoinment of the company.
In December 2023, the court granted AG Ellison’s motion for temporary injunction against one of the defendants in the lawsuit (Progress Residential Management Services, LLC). The court ordered the company to take actions to comply with state and federal lead paint laws, including hiring lead paint inspectors before conducting repairs, drafting lead paint policies and procedures, training employees, and routinely providing the AG’s office with proof of compliance.
