Wisconsin AG Took Action against Company for Gasoline Spill
FEBRUARY 9, 2022
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul reported that a local fueling facility near a lake located in the southeast region of the state will be required to pay $25,000 in penalties for violating underground petroleum storage tank laws. In 2019, the company in charge of the facility failed to address excess amounts of water in its gasoline storage tanks, which was a sign that oil was leaking out of the facility. When the company finally determined why water was building up, the actions taken in response were not effective. Additionally, the gasoline released into the environment was not addressed for another six months despite its harmful effects on human health and wildlife.
