Washington AG Reached a Settlement Agreement with Energy Department over Hazardous Vapors at Hanford Nuclear Reservation

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson reached a settlement agreement with the Energy Department requiring the federal government to implement systems to treat or capture hazardous tank vapors at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, a 586-mile Superfund site managed by the department. In September 2015, AG Ferguson filed a lawsuit against the Energy Department and Washington River Protection Solutions over their failure to address issues related to worker exposure to noxious fumes and chemical vapors at the site, which AG Ferguson noted has been causing illness and prolonged health effects for workers at the site for 20 years.
