Twenty-One AGs Supported EPA Regulation of Methane Emissions
JANUARY 31, 2022
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 21 attorneys general in comments supporting the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposal to limit methane emissions, as well as smog-forming volatile organic compounds and other air pollutants, from oil and natural gas facilities. The AGs urged EPA to go even further by prohibiting gas flaring at these facilities, strengthening the environmental justice analyses of these pollutants, and addressing abandoned wells, which are another large source of methane emissions.
