Twenty-One AGs Sent Comments to EPA Supporting California’s Clean Cars Waiver
FEBRUARY 27, 2024
California Attorney General Rob Bonta led a coalition of 21 attorneys general and four cities in sending comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) supporting the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) request for a preemption waiver to strengthen its car emissions rules under Section 209(b) of the Clean Air Act. CARB’s proposed updates would result in decreased tailpipe emissions from vehicles with internal combustion engines. In their comments, the AGs emphasized that EPA has no basis to deny the waiver request and highlighted the benefits to the public health of California residents, and the residents of other states who adopt California’s regulation.
