Twenty-One AGs Filed Motion to Intervene to Prevent Further Undermining of Vehicle Efficiency and Emissions Standards
MAY 29, 2020
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra led a coalition of 21 attorneys general in filing a motion to intervene in litigation challenging the Trump administration’s so-called SAFE Vehicles rule—which weakened fuel efficiency and emissions standards for passenger vehicles and light trucks—on the grounds that the rule is unjustifiably stringent. In their motion, the attorneys general emphasized that they firmly oppose “any arguments that [Environmental Protection Agency] and [the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration] should have adopted weaker greenhouse gas emission and fuel economy standards” and “any attempts to limit the ability of these agencies to adopt more robust standards in the future.”
