Twenty AGs Threatened Litigation Over Clean Car Standards Rollbacks

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey led a coalition of 20 attorneys general in releasing a statement announcing their intent to bring legal challenges to the Trump administration’s proposals to weaken emissions standards for passenger cars and light trucks for model years 2021 through 2026, and to revoke California’s waiver under the Clean Air Act, which allows the state to set its own vehicle emissions standards. Twelve states and the District of Columbia have adopted the emissions standards set by California under Section 177 of the Clean Air Act; the attorneys general of all 12 “Section 177” states and the District of Columbia joined the coalition.
