Twelve AGs Back EPA Finding that Lead Emissions from Planes Endanger Public Health

California Attorney General Rob Bonta led a coalition of 12 attorneys general in comments on EPA’s proposed finding that emissions from planes that use leaded fuel contribute to air pollution and may endanger public health and welfare. An endangerment finding is required before EPA can establish standards for regulating lead emissions from aircraft engines. In their comments, the AGs emphasize the harms of leaded aviation gasoline to public health, highlighting the particular threats posed to environmental justice communities. The AGs urge EPA to finalize the endangerment finding and promulgate emissions standards as soon as possible, calling the proposed endangerment finding “an overdue and crucial first step.” Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C. joined AG Bonta in the January 17 comments.
