Three AGs Urged PJM to Consider Clean Energy Priorities in Search for New President/CEO

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine sent a letter to PJM Interconnection regarding its search for its next president and chief executive officer, stating that the next leader should be “an enthusiastic partner in states and localities’ efforts to address climate change, protect consumers, and promote green economic development.” In their letter, the attorneys general detailed the seriousness of the impacts of climate change on their states, including harms to particularly vulnerable residents in low-income communities and communities of color, and pointed to state leadership in transforming the energy sector to move away from fossil fuels. The attorneys general emphasized that the new leader of PJM should have the economic and policy background to recognize state clean energy preferences as market corrections, not out-of-market distortions, and must also respect the role of states under the Federal Power Act to shape the mix of generation resources offered to their consumers.
