Thirteen AGs Filed Comments Opposing NHTSA’s Proposed Rollback of Penalties for Fuel Economy Violations

Thirteen attorneys general submitted comments to the Transportation Department’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opposing a proposal to reduce penalties for automakers’ violations of national fuel economy standards. In their comments, the attorneys general warned that NHTSA has no authority to reduce the penalties, and that doing so will undermine national fuel economy standards.
