Thirteen AGs Advocated for $4 Billion in Consumer & Climate Benefits through Updated Gas Furnace Standards

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 13 attorneys general in comments on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) proposed updates to energy conservation standards for gas furnaces. In their letter, the AGs highlighted that the total benefits of the updated standards—which include consumer savings, health benefits, and avoided climate impacts—would amount to $4 billion a year. The Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act included provisions on increasing access and affordability to more efficient gas furnaces; the AGs urged DOE to swiftly finalize the standards.
