Sixteen AGs Sent Comments on EPA’s Residual Risk and Technology Review under MATS Rule
JUNE 23, 2023
Massachusetts AG Andrea Joy Campbell and Minnesota AG Keith Ellison led a coalition of 16 attorneys general in sending comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposal to strengthen limits on hazardous air pollutants from coal- and oil-fired power plants under the 2012 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule. The AGs supported EPA’s proposal to place stricter limits on mercury from lignite coal-burning units and non-mercury metals from all coal-fired units, but urged EPA to consider stricter limits on mercury emissions from nonlignite coal-fired units as well stricter hydrogen chloride (HCl) limits for acid gases.
