Six AGs Filed Amicus Brief Opposing the Lighthouse Resources Inc. Coal Export Terminal
AUGUST 20, 2018
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra led a coalition of six attorneys general in an amicus brief in support of Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s decision to deny permitting to Lighthouse Resources, Inc. for the construction of a new coal export terminal in Washington State. In their amicus brief, the attorneys general argued that states have a sovereign right to set their own policies on issues related to “public health, safety, and the environment,” and that overriding Washington State’s capacity to deny permitting for the export terminal would set a dangerous precedent weakening this right.
