Six AGs Commented on Regulatory Improvements for Production and Utilization Facilities Transitioning to Decommissioning Proposed Rule

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of six states in filing comments on the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s proposed rule entitled “Regulatory Improvements for Production and Utilization Facilities Transitioning to Decommissioning.” The states requested that the Commission reevaluate its overall regulatory approach and reconsider its hands-off regulatory approach to decommissioning. They also suggested strengthening its decommissioning funding assurance rules and including an environmental impact statement to the proposed rule.
