Seventeen AGs Supported Department of Energy’s Commitment to Stronger Energy Efficiency Testing Process
SEPTEMBER 20, 2021
New York Attorney General Letitia James led 17 attorneys general in submitting comments to the Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the department’s proposal to make its national appliance and equipment efficiency program more robust. At the time of the comments, the agency’s rule granted waivers that allow manufacturers to use unapproved and non-standardized test procedures to test the energy efficiency of their products. The coalition argued that this unlawful rule favors expediency over energy efficiency, and supported DOE’s proposal to replace the rule with a commitment to consider waiver requests individually.
