Rhode Island AG Filed Lawsuits against Several Landlords for Lead Violations

Attorney General Peter Neronha filed five lawsuits against five landlords for not complying with the state lead poisoning prevention laws. The properties involved in the lawsuit were considered lead hazards, and one child was found to have lead poisoning. The lawsuit included a court order to stop further harmful conduct, remediate lead hazards, provide alternative housing to residents during the remediation process, and appoint a receiver if the defendants don’t fix the lead violations. The lawsuit also included monetary penalties of up to $5,000 per day that the conduct continues.
