Rhode Island AG Sued Landlord Company over Lead Violations

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha filed a lawsuit against a Pioneer Investments, L.L.C., a landlord company, over violations of lead paint hazard and other housing laws. According to the complaint, the company failed to properly maintain its nearly 200 residential units, resulting in lead poisoning in child residents, rodent infestations, and other dangerous conditions. The lawsuit asked the court to order the company to provide safe, lead-free housing to tenants, to forfeit profits from units that violated the law, and to pay restitutions, fines, and penalties. The complaint also sought the assignment of an official to monitor Pioneer’s compliance with the order and with state laws.
