Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha reached a settlement with Exxon Mobil over the company’s role in contaminating the state’s soil and groundwater with methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), a dangerous gasoline additive. Exxon is required to pay $6 million under the settlement, which will go towards MTBE clean-up efforts.
