Rhode Island AG Filed Opposition to Gas Utility Plan over Climate Concerns
FEBRUARY 27, 2023
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha submitted a filing asking the Public Utilities Commission to reject a plan submitted by Rhode Island Energy, a gas utility, to increase gas bill prices by 6.6% within 21 months and to expand gas utility infrastructure in the state. According to AG Neronha’s filing, the plan did not comply with the state’s Act on Climate law, which mandates reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and sought price increases and expenditures beyond what was “reasonably needed to maintain safe and reliable distribution service.”
