Pennsylvania AG Announced Criminal Charges against Pipeline Companies

On August 5, 2022, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that Sunoco Pipeline L.P and ETC Northeast Pipeline LLC, collectively Energy Transfer, were convicted of criminal charges regarding their conduct during construction of two major pipelines, the Mariner East 2 Pipeline and Revolution Pipeline. The companies are required to pay for evaluations to check for potential water quality impacts for homeowners and offer mechanisms for restoration and replacement of water supplies. They will also have to pay $10 million towards projects that improve the health and safety of water sources along the routes of the pipelines.

On December 16, 2022, AG Shapiro announced that his office has selected independent geology firms to begin free water quality evaluations for any residents who believed they may have been affected by the construction of the Mariner East 2 Pipeline. Energy Transfer will pay for the evaluations and any necessary restoration under an agreement with the AG’s office.
