Ohio AG Secured Settlement with BP Over Alleged Clean Air Act Violations
MARCH 26, 2020
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost secured a $2.6 million settlement with British Petroleum (BP) subsidiaries over alleged violations of the Clean Air Act, the Comprehensive Emergency Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act at a refinery near Toledo. The settlement resolved allegations that the company “failed to operate and maintain emissions monitoring systems” at the refinery. Under the terms of the settlement, the company must pay civil penalties of approximately $1.42 million to the federal government and $200,000 to the State of Ohio, and must fund a $1.2 million lead abatement project in the surrounding community.
