North Carolina AG Encouraged Applications for Environmental Enhancement Grants

North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein urged organizations to apply for 2024 Environmental Enhancement Grants to improve the state’s natural resources. The grants, ranging from $5,000 to $500,000, support initiatives addressing environmental quality improvement, particularly in overburdened and underserved communities, with a focus on eastern North Carolina. These grants, established in 2000 through a 25-year agreement with Smithfield Foods, allocate $2 million annually for environmental projects. Potential project topics could touch on a range of issues, such as land acquisitions, construction, remediation, restoration, planning, education, or research. Since the program has started, it has awarded over $43 million to over 228 environmental projects.
