New York AG Held Landlord Accountable for Lead Poisoning

New York Attorney General Letitia James reached an agreement with a landlord and his management company for causing lead poisoning in at least 18 children through exposure to lead paint, as she alleged in her complaint. Lead paint can cause serious health issues at any level of exposure, especially in children, and it is still prevalent in many residences despite being banned from sale in the 1970s. Under the agreement, the landlord’s company was no longer allowed to operate in the state and had to pay $215,000 in fines, which was distributed among the affected families and to initiatives to prevent lead exposure.
