New York AG Filed Lawsuit against Landlord for Lead Safety Violations
MARCH 28, 2023
New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against a Buffalo landlord and his companies for repeatedly violating lead safety laws at at least 49 different properties since 2008, leading to at least 16 children residing at those properties being diagnosed with lead poisonings. The landlord companies primarily rented the properties to low-income families of color. The landlord, his wife, and their companies “routinely violated city, county, state, and federal laws by allowing lead paint to deteriorate, and further violated regulations dictating how to safely repair lead paint hazards and communicate risks to tenants,” according to the AG. The lawsuit sought injunctive relief.
