New York AG Filed Lawsuit against 29 Waste Companies for Illegal Dumping

New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation, announced a lawsuit against 29 companies that transport waste for illegal disposal of over 3,000 truckloads of construction and demolition waste. The companies transported the waste from New York City to a waste site in Ulster County, despite the fact that the site was only permitted to accept waste from Ulster and Dutchess counties. In a statement, AG James said: “We have environmental and solid waste laws in New York for a reason: to protect our land, our water, and our people. By ignoring these laws and repeatedly dumping construction waste where they were not permitted, these 29 companies threatened our natural resources and risked health and safety of New Yorkers in Ulster County. My office remains committed to aggressively enforcing our environmental protection laws and holding those who violate them fully accountable.” The lawsuit sought disgorgement of profits from the dumping, as well as statutory penalties for violating state law.
