New York AG Announced a $2M Penalty against Company for Unlawfully Operated Oil Wells

New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Hochul announced a $2 million penalty following a lawsuit against a company for violations of the state’s oil and gas well regulations. The Supreme Court judge ordered the company to pay the penalty and bring their oil wells into full compliance with state laws. The company allegedly did not properly plug the wells they operated which created a danger to drinking water and released methane in the surrounding areas.
