New Jersey AG Sued Property Owner for Failing to Address Contamination before Turning Industrial Site into Residential Condos

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, filed a lawsuit against John Street Commons LLC, the owner of a former industrial site that now houses residential condominiums, for failing to remediate hazardous soil and groundwater pollution after purchasing the property. The lawsuit sought to compel the company to “complete remediation begun by the DEP, reimburse the DEP, and pay past and present penalties.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
