APRIL 20, 2023
In April 2023, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, issued a directive requiring the current and former owners of a former industrial site in Newark (including previous owner Canrad Hanovia, Inc.) to sample and remediate contamination of volatile organic compounds at the site.
In September 2023, AG Platkin and DEP filed a lawsuit against the responsible parties for failing to comply with the earlier directive The lawsuit sought an order requiring the company to test and clean up the site, as well as pay outstanding fees, costs, and penalties. Both actions were part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
