New Jersey AG Sued Gas Station Owner over Hazardous Leaks from Underground Fuel Storage Tanks

New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, filed a lawsuit against the owner of Gulf Gas Stop in Egg Harbor City over allegations that the station’s underground fuel storage tanks leaked into the surrounding soil, resulting in contamination of benzene, MTBE, toluene, lead, and other chemical toxins. The lawsuit sought sought “enforcement of, and penalties for non-compliance with, a prior DEP order to remediate the site, among other relief.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
