New Jersey AG Sued Ford Motor Company over Contamination of Tribal Land
JUNE 16, 2022
Acting New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Company, alleging the company contaminated natural resources, including the historic homeland of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. The AG alleged that in the 1970s, Ford sold and donated over 500 acres of land that it had used as a dumping site for toxic waste without disclosing that the land was contaminated with lead, arsenic, benzene, PCBs, and other hazardous pollutants. The lawsuit sought compensation for natural resource damages, punitive damages, and penalties.
