New Jersey AG Sued Company over Dangerous Pollution Caused by Underground Storage Tanks

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, filed a lawsuit against Melcam Properties, LLC over benzene and 1,2-dichloroethane contamination caused by the company’s underground storage tanks at Wawa Plaza. The lawsuit sought “remediation of the groundwater contamination and the recovery of the public funds that DEP has incurred, and will incur, to protect the health and safety of the residents at risk.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
