New Jersey AG Sued Company over Dangerous and Illegal Storage of Waste
MAY 10, 2021
In May 2021, then-New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, filed a lawsuit against S. Yaffa and Sons, Inc. and its owner over allegations that the company illegally imported and stored solid waste, a hazard exacerbated by the company’s underground fuel storage tank located on the site. The lawsuit sought enforcement of a prior DEP remediation order and payment of penalties. This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
In July 2021, Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck filed an amended verified complaint and a request for a court order following additional inspections of the site by DEP.
