New Jersey AG Filed Motion Seeking a Court Order against Chemical Company that Failed to Remediate Hazardous Contamination

New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) filed a motion seeking the court to compel Novick Chemical Company to comply with a previous court order requiring the company to remediate high levels of hazardous substances, including tetrachloroethylene (PCE), at its bulk chemical storage and chemical distribution center in Newark. DEP filed a lawsuit against Novick in 2014, and a court “issued an order assessing significant penalties against Novick and ordering it to complete the remediation,” but the company failed to comply. This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
