New Jersey AG Filed Lawsuit against Realtor for Failing to Cleanup Petroleum Contamination at Property

Acting New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, along with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), filed a lawsuit against Sigma Realty, Inc., for failing to address petroleum contamination after purchasing a property that was formerly the site of a gas station. According to the AG’s Office, the property is “located near a high school, a child care center, and a creek, presenting both environmental and public health concerns that have not yet been investigated.” The lawsuit sought compliance with a previously issued cleanup order, as well as additional penalties. This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
