DECEMBER 6, 2018
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection filed a lawsuit against owners of a site in Newark, Essex County that formerly operated as a gas station (Gulf Gas) for failing to remediate hazardous pollution at the site, including hazardous substances, benzene, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE). The lawsuit sought “court order to compel remediation of the site and to recover its costs from the responsible parties.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
