New Jersey AG Filed Lawsuit against Owners of Gas Station over Pollution
DECEMBER 6, 2018
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) filed a lawsuit against the owners of a retail gas station on South Main Street and Hudson in Phillipsburg over gasoline pollution that has endangered the surrounding community. DEP has attempted to hold the company accountable for decades, including by installing vapor treatment systems after detecting gasoline-related compounds in the air near the site. In this lawsuit, DEP sought “to recover its costs from the responsible parties.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
