New Jersey AG Filed Lawsuit against Industrial Property Owners for Hazardous Contamination
AUGUST 24, 2022
Acting New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, along with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), filed a lawsuit against the owners of an industrial property that is contaminated with various hazardous substances—including PCBs, benzene, PCE, arsenic, lead, and mercury—from different businesses that have operated on the site over the years. The lawsuit sought a court order requiring cleanup of the property, which is located on Avenue P in Newark, as well as recovery of DEP enforcement costs. This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
