New Jersey AG Filed Lawsuit against Dry Cleaning Company over Hazardous Pollution of Soil and Groundwater
DECEMBER 6, 2018
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) filed a lawsuit against a dry cleaning company (Tirpok’s Cleaners and Dyers, Inc.) for contaminating soil and groundwater with a dry-cleaning solvent called tetrachloroethene (PCE), which is linked to detrimental health effects. The lawsuit sought “order requiring the defendants to clean up the impacted soil and ground water and to reimburse the Department for its cleanup and removal costs.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
