New Jersey AG Filed Lawsuit against Company over Community Contamination Caused by Fuel Spill

Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck, along with the Department of Environmental Protection, filed a lawsuit against Richards Fuel Oils, Inc. over contamination caused when the company’s four above-ground storage tanks were knocked over by a storm in 1999. According to the complaint, the fuel oil spill that resulted caused widespread contamination in the surrounding community. The lawsuit “assert[ed] that the full extent of petroleum product contamination at the site remains undetermined.” This action was part of a tranche of lawsuits taken as part of the New Jersey AG Office’s environmental justice initiative.
