Michigan AG Sued Hydroelectric Company for Endangering Wildlife, Causing Public Safety Hazard

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a complaint against several hydroelectric companies for displacing a dangerous amount of sediment by mismanaging a lake drawdown, which is when a dam is used to control the water levels of a lake. In order to repair their dams, the companies failed to follow procedures to protect wildlife and public safety, ignoring repeated warnings by AG Nessel and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to minimize the impact of the process. The complaint sought civil fines and damages, as well as a court order requiring the companies to clean up the damage.
