Michigan AG Secured 50% Rate Reduction in Gas Utility’s Requested Increase

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that the Michigan Public Service Commission approved a settlement that allows Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation to increase its gas rate by only $9.9 million—rather than the requested $19.1 million—after AG Nessel intervened in the case. “My office and our partners were able to slash this requested rate increase almost in half. Utility customers who would have faced the almost twelve percent rate hike, as the utility requested, will now only bear an effective increase of 2% per year since the last rate increase from their natural gas provider,” said AG Nessel.
