Michigan AG Filed Comments Opposing Proposed Delisting of Gray Wolf Under Endangered Species Act

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed comments opposing a proposal by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the gray wolf from the list of species protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In her comments, AG Nessel warned that the proposal “seeks to weaponize effective wolf recovery in states like Michigan against wolf populations struggling to recover in other states,” and stressed that the success of gray wolf recovery efforts in her state does not satisfy the ESA’s requirements for delisting, which would remove federal protections for the species throughout the entirety of its range.
