Michigan AG Announced Consent Decree against Hazardous Substance Polluter for Restoration Funding

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced a consent decree with Dow Chemical Company to settle a complaint against the company for contaminating the Tittabawassee River, Saginaw River and Saginaw Bay waste products, including dioxins. The agreement was negotiated with the federal government (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and tribal partners. The consent decree, subject to public notice and comment, will provide an estimated $77 million in funding for restoration of fish, wildlife and habitats harmed by past contamination from the company’s manufacturing facility in the state.
