Massachusetts AG Urged Utilities Department to Revise Regulations for Gas Utilities
MAY 6, 2022
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey sent an extensive report to the state’s Department of Public Utilities urging the regulator to revise regulations for gas utilities in accordance with the state’s plans to reach net-zero by 2050. The AG provided specific recommendations, such as implementing rate rules that prevent climate investments from causing cost increases for low-income ratepayers. This letter followed a 2020 petition by the AG’s office requesting that the Department open an investigation into the future of gas utilities given the state’s decarbonization goals.
