Massachusetts AG Testified to Support Legislation that Would Establish EJ Trust Fund

Staff from Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell’s Office testified before the state’s Joint Committee on the Judiciary to support legislation that would establish an environmental justice trust fund. In their testimony, the staff members explained that “although [the AGO’s] enforcement may be successful in stopping [environmental] violations, the communities are left to bear the burden of the impacts on them.” S2521 and H4143—which the AG’s office filed along with Representative Fluker-Oakley and Senator Gomez—would establish an environmental justice trust fund, modeled after similar trusts in Massachusetts and other states, which would “enable [the AGO’s] enforcement work to directly benefit the communities most impacted.”
