Maryland AG Secured Settlement over Fuel Leak in Overburdened and Underserved Community
JANUARY 23, 2024
Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a settlement in a lawsuit against Tri-Gas & Oil Co., Inc., a fuel storage facility on the Eastern Shore. The lawsuit, filed in February 2023, focused on groundwater and creek pollution resulting from a fuel leak at the company’s Federalsburg location. The settlement includes a $600,000 penalty for the pollution and requires the company to continue cleanup efforts. The settlement mandates compliance with an interim cleanup plan to address groundwater contamination. According to the Maryland Department of the Environment’s environmental justice screening tool, the affected community is overburdened and underserved.
