SEPTEMBER 27, 2022
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul secured a consent order with the owner of a coal-fired power plant for releasing dangerous levels of mercury into the surrounding environmental justice community. The company was required to pay a $125,000 civil penalty. The AG’s office investigated the plant in 2019 after its emissions exceeded the levels allowed by federal mercury regulations and the facility failed to comply with permit conditions.
