Illinois AG Filed Lawsuit against Trump Tower for Environmental Violations

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed an complaint in his lawsuit against the Trump Tower over violation of environmental laws. The lawsuit was first filed in 2018 alleging that the building, which is situated on the Chicago River, failed to obtain the required Clean Water Act permits needed for its cooling water intake system. The parties had entered into an agreed interim order to resolve the violations, but while that was pending, evidence emerged that showed that the building falsified data and significantly underreported the amount of water it was discharging into the river daily. As a result, AG Raoul filed this amended complaint, seeking civil penalties and compliance with state environmental laws.
