Illinois AG Announced Interim Order with Sugar Camp Energy
JULY 14, 2022
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced an interim consent order with Sugar Camp Energy regarding an alleged release of PFAS, or “forever chemicals.” The order followed a lawsuit the AG filed against Sugar Camp after they allegedly used firefighting foam, which contains PFAS, to extinguish a fire at their mines. This resulted in PFAS runoff into water streams near the coal mine. The order required Sugar Camp to test the facilities ponds for PFAS and to install treatment systems to remove the contaminant.
