Fifteen AGs Urged EPA to Expand Clean Water Act Protections
FEBRUARY 7, 2022
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 15 attorneys general in commenting on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) and Army Corps of Engineers’ proposed revised definition of “waters of the United States” (WOTUS). The definition classifies what types of water bodies are protected by federal law. The AGs urged EPA to protect water bodies that had lost protection under a Trump-era rule. The coalition pushed the agencies to make the definition “even clearer and more environmentally protective” in any ensuing rulemaking.
